Klezmerson in Toronto
The tradition when visiting friends in Toronto is to indulge in the amazing Sunday brunch at the Free Times Cafe. It's called something like "Bella, did ya eat," and features the largest, most delicious Jewish buffet I have ever experienced. We're talking scrabledeggsloxbagelsgefiltefishlatkesfishfruithummus with 10 kinds of smoked fish and babagenoush and everything in between.
This time around we heard this pretty amazing band from
Mexico City called Klezmerson. We liked everything about the band except for the repertoire, which seemed to consist of golden moldies. From there, the band did an amazing fusion of son and Rock and jazz and klezmer, but we so wanted them to be working with different material. No mind. Fully intend to catch them again tomorrow here at Ashkenaz.
