Klezmer Nutcracker, Washington, DC, Dec 21
Critically acclaimed Shirim Klezmer
Orchestra will give two performances of The Klezmer
Nutcracker in the Aaron & Cecile Goldman Theater at the
District of Columbia Jewish Community Center on Sunday,
December 21. The first performance will be a 45-minute
acoustic kids' show at 12:00pm. The second performance
will be a full-length show (approx. 90 minutes) at 3:00pm.
Boston-based Shirim Klezmer Orchestra takes familiar
musical material for a wild ride, playing melodies taken
from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker in the rollicking style
of Klezmer music. Billboard Magazine called The Klezmer
Nutcracker "…utterly natural and totally compelling.
Shirim's genre-conception is a delight and its playing a
joy." The Klezmer Nutcracker is a musical performance
only. There is no dancing or dramatization of the
original Nutcracker story. For tickets and parking
information, call 202-777-3254 or email rachels@dcjcc.org.
Tickets for the noon children’s show are $15 for adults
and $12 for children. Tickets for the 3pm full-length
show are $25 for DCJCC members and $30 for non-members.
