Rashanim is a Jewish power trio led by guitarist Jon Madof (John Zorn, Frank London). The band's influences include sacred Jewish melodies, indie rock, punk, and jazz. Shanir Blumenkranz (Pharaoh's Daughter, John Zorn) is on bass, and Mathias Kunzli (Lauren Hill) plays drums and percussion. The band gets its name from the noisemakers used during the Jewish holiday of Purim.
Rashanim will be followed by a solo performance by master guitarist Marc Ribot (Los Cubanos Postizos, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, John Zorn). Ribot and Rashanim join forces on 'Masada Rock,' Rashanim's latest record for Zorn's Tzadik Records. The CD is a collection of tunes from Zorn's acclaimed Masada songbook, and will be released in July 2005.
