World Premiere: Di Fusgeyers, Los Angeles, CA, Dec 4
In Collaboration with the Consulate General of Romania – Los Angeles
Present The World Premiere
“Di Fusgeyers”
Featuring Music Composed by
Yale Strom
Inspired by Stuart Tower’s popular historical novel “The Wayfarers,” this
string quartet is a musical tribute to the trek of thousands of young Romanian
Jews to Bremerhaven and other Atlantic seaports between 1890 and 1914 to
escape the intolerable political, social and economic anti-Semitism of their
native land in order to reach the Atlantic seaports for departure for a new life
in the United States. The Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity with
which Strom is affiliated, commissioned the creation of the composition as part
of its ongoing effort to broaden the horizon of Jewish culture. Its world
premiere will be:
Sunday, December 4, 2005
7:00 pm
Wiesenthal Center
9786 W. Pico Blvd
Los Angeles, 90035
The program will also feature other compositions and original arrangements
by Strom with Yiddish lyrics sung by the renowned interpreter of Jewish
melodies, Elizabeth Schwartz.
The Center thanks August Maymudes and the Mischa and Sonia Yablon Cultural
Foundation for their generous support of this and other Center creative
projects featuring the works of Yale Strom in music and film.
Quartet will feature: Fred Benedetti-guitar, George Svoboda-guitar, Ronald
