Rabbi Moshe Cotel, Sharon, MA, Jun 16

Rabbi Moshe CotelSHARON — Renowned composer and raconteur Rabbi Moshe Cotel will present his unique one-man concert at Temple Sinai of Sharon’s Shabbat evening service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 16. This concert-within-a-service is Temple Sinai’s annual Gusman Music Service, and is free and open to the community.

Temple Sinai is a Reform Jewish congregation located at 25 Canton St., Sharon. For more information, call Temple Sinai at 781-784-6081 or visit www.temple-sinai.com.

In “Chronicles: A Jewish Life at the Classical Piano,” Rabbi Cotel recounts his private journey from one world, the life of a virtuoso musician, to another, the life of a spiritual leader. This performance is a fascinating mix of classical piano and rabbinics, with a series of highly personal monologues interspersing keyboard music from several musical eras. Works by Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn, Bloch, Schoenberg, Scriabin, Gershwin and Delibes will be performed.

Rabbi Cotel lives in New York City, where he received his rabbinic ordination at the Academy for Jewish Religion in May 2003. He is the former chair of composition at the Peabody Institute Conservatory of Music of The Johns Hopkins University.

The Gusman Music Service is an annual event featuring the best of Jewish music, honoring the late performer Rachel “Rita” Gusman.
