On September 12, 2007 The Sway Machinery will unveil its most ambitious project to date: Hidden Melodies Revealed. Taking place on the night of Rosh HaShana, the Jewish lunar new year, and falling at the intersection of storytelling, theater and mass hysteria, this event will bring the band's blistering live show to a new level. Taking the traditional New Year ritual music as jumping off point, Hidden Melodies Reveled will showcase the band's powerful ability to transform the ancient arts into an experience that is living, joyful and transformative. A companion EP featuring music from the concert will also be released on September 12. Not to be missed!
To add to the festivities, we are happy to inform the public that there will be an open bar from 9:45 until 11PM on the night of the performance, courtesy of the Moet Hennesy Company. The bar will be offering Ardbeg "the Ultimate Single Islay Malt Scotch Whiskey" and Greenpoint Chardonnay and Cabernet Shiraz from Australia. Greenpoint, founded by Moet and Chandon, is a high quality cool climate wine that is committed to ecologically friendly wine making practices.

Employing music, storytelling and the debut of an animated film (directed by Guggenheim Fellow Shawn Atkins using puppets designed by Paul Andrejco and created especially for this event), Hidden Melodies Revealed will be a visceral feast. This event takes as its goal the creation of an emotional state in which the musical folklore of the New Year liturgy can be absorbed by a modern audience. We are excited to invite you to be a part of this experimentation!
For this special event, the band will feature both special guest, drummer Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and founding member, percusionist Tomer Tzur, tag teaming on drums and percussion. Our usual team, Jeremiah Lockwood (Balkan Beat Box) on guitar and voice, Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire) on bass saxophone, and the inimitable tenor sax and trumpet combo of Stuart Bogie and Jordan McLean (Antibalas), will be presiding.
In the spirit of the holiday, there will be no charge for admission however, we will be accepting donations and offering copied of our new EP for sale. We sincerely look forward to seeing you there!
Be still and you will hear it--the rumble of the snare drum and the high pitched cackle of the double-reed shawm. The marching musicians are coming through the ruined gates of the city and the singer of epic tales is rising from the half darkness in which he reposes. The singer will no longer be silent. He will tell us those stories that spur us onward, away from the ruins of the city, away from the half-rotten corpses that we call a life and he will drive us forth into the desert. There, in the midst of the plateau that spreads like a veil over all of the world, you will loose yourself and come to know joy.
Hidden Melodies Revealed is supported by The Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, a partnership of Avoda Arts, JDub Records, and the Foundation for Jewish Culture, and is made possible with major funding from UJA-Federation of New York.
