Information: BODYTRAFFIC, a Los Angeles based dance ensemble, was founded by Artistic Directors Lillian Barbeito and Tina Finkelman Berkett. Since BODYTRAFFIC S inception one year ago, the company has performed at the Alex Theatre, the World Festival of Sacred Music at the Aratani/Japan America Theatre and the Laguna Dance Festival. Lewis Segal of the LA Times has described BODYTRAFFIC as fresh and skillful.
Transfigured Night was created during a residency with renowned Israeli choreographers Guy Weizman and Roni Haver. This evening length dance piece is set to Arnold Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht, a powerful composition that was banned during the Holocaust. Celebrated concertmaster Mark Kashper will lead a live string sextet from the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony.
The set, by Ascon de Nijs was inspired by paintings that depict crumbling architecture during the Nazi regime. Costume designer Swinda Reichelt, was inspired by her experiences during the Silent Marches of Berlin.Performers include: Lillian Barbeito, Tina Finkelman Berkett, Liony Garcia, Alexa Kershner, John Mercke and Julie Rose Shulman.
