New World Premieres and Old World Chestnuts
Concert by The The Casco Bay Tummlers klezmer band
Saturday, June 4th at 7 p.m.
at the Frontier Cafe, 14 Maine St - Fort Andross, Brunswick, Maine
Join us in the casual atmosphere of the Frontier Cafe where you can enjoy supper or a drink and share new and old music with The Casco Bay Tummlers. The Casco Bay Tummlers have been playing Jewish music from around the world in their personal, engaging style to audiences in Maine and well beyond for over twenty years. It's been a while since they've performed in the mid-coast area so they are happy to be presenting a concert of new repertoire - including a film score by flutist/guitarist Carl Dimow - along with some of the classic klezmer tunes that have endeared them to their fans.
You can look forward to hearing colorful instrumentation - Carl on flute, bass flute, electric and acoustic guitars, Phil McGowan on drum set and ethnic percussion, Julie Goell on bass and vocals, Nancy 3. Hoffman on accordion and vocals and Steve Gruverman on sax and clarinet - and contrasting styles: jazzy improvisation, witty show tunes, Middle Eastern grooves and, of course, soulful klezmer interpretations, some reflective and some that will tempt you to get up and dance.
The Tummlers are pleased to note that Carl's film compositions were funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Cost $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Food, wine and beer for sale at concert.
