Jazz vocalist Claire Dickson, winner of many Downbeat Student Music Awards, including this year’s High School Jazz vocalist award, returns to Ryles Jazz Club on August 1 at 8:30pm. This summer, Claire is studying at Berklee College Music in the Jazz Workshop, directed by Terri Lyne Carrington, and Claire will bring some of her bandmates from the the workshop to play with her: James Fernando (of Needham, MA), piano, Logan Kane, bass, and Adrian Cota, drums, Claire is a remarkable vocalist, regardless of age, and has been turning heads with gigs at area jazz clubs.
At 16, Claire is already an important member of the jazz community in Boston. She writes jazz blogs for WBUR’s Artery, edits the JazzBoston newsletter, and has even had her own jazz radio show on WMFO. She released her first CD at age 13 and garnered impressive reviews and airplay on both sides of the Atlantic. Her participation in Terri Lyne Carrington’s Jazz Workshop is an honor afforded to a select group of young musicians from around the world.
