Adrianne Greenbaum will be featured on the wood flute playing some of her "new" tunes from FleytMuzik, accompanied by Brian Bender on piano and Roy Weisman on bass. Of course Brian will also play trombone throughout the evening! Of course TKT's core musicians Fraidy Katz and Walter Mamlok will be there to give that TKT tam! (For those asking "Where is Cookie?" she's out and about fiddling across the countryside and will return to us in August.) Beautiful Tanglewood-like setting, so bring your dinners, your chocolate-covered strawberries and dance in the moonlight with us. Yes, again Adrienne Greenbaum will teach dancing before the concert!
The Kidz Klezmer Band of Michigan is perhaps the youngest group of musicians involved in the revival of traditional Jewish music. They're dedicated, accomplished, and working diligently to bring their music to NYC's Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall on July 1, 8pm.
Tickets can be purchased for $30 at www.carnegiehall.org
Cantor Stephen Dubov is founder and vocalist, conductor of the band. The Kidz Klez Band is currently operated under the umbrella of Congregation Chaye Olam, P. O. Box 250356, Franklin Village, MI 48025, telephone (248) 752-6669.

The WC is at 1762 Beacon St in Brookline, about 5 blocks west of Washington Square, which is about 12 blocks west of Coolidge Corner. The Green Line Beacon Street route goes right to the WC (just tell the conductor, "Ich gay in Arbeter Ring," and they'll know where to let you off).

Vincoli Sonori
8th Klezmer & Gypsy Music Festival
Pinerolo (To)
16-17-18-19 july 2003
Vincoli Sonori was born from a passion for klezmer music and the discovery of the profound links between Jewish and Gypsy musicians in eastern European musical traditions.
Vincoli Sonori was born from a passion for klezmer music and the discovery of the profound links between Jewish and Gypsy musicians in eastern European musical traditions. Music belonging to these two ethnic minorities which, over the centuries and in different continents, have borrowed aspects of other cultures, reinventing them, but without losing their own strong cultural identity. The high quality of the programmes, which is gradually being recognised by the press and the public, makes this an occasion that should not be missed. During the festival, Pinerolo comes to life with a special atmosphere, full of sound that ranges from manouche-jazz to classic Klezmer, performed by the best international groups: The Klezmatics, Urs Karpatz, Maurice El Medioni, Kalman Balogh, Loyko, Colalaila, Brave Old World, Acquaragia Drom, Titi and Ziroli Winterstein, Ando Drom, Bratsch, Klezroym, Note Manouche, Les Yeux Noirs, Odessa Klezmer Band, Shirim, Timna Brauer, Opa Cupa, Slonovski Bal are only some of the exceptional musicians who have animated this festival in the past.

We will be debuting two songs about our relationship to money-- one
is a updated old Yiddish vaudeville song, a biting satire about the
corrupting effects of money, and the second, it's antidote, is a
melodic comparison of money used for good or for selfish purposes.
As usual, we'll be using subtitles and other means for making sure
that the non-Yiddish speakers in our audience will understand
everything we're singing about.

To reclaim an ancestral couch upon which esteemed rabbis slept, Pearl Gluck travels from her Hasidic community in Brooklyn to her roots in Hungary. Along the way, a colorful cast of characters gets involved - the couch exporter, her ex-communist cousin in Budapest, a pair of matchmakers, and a renegade group of formerly ultra-Orthodox Jews. Divan is a visual parable that offers the possibility of personal reinvention and cultural re-upholstery.

So, as I announced last week, this year's NEC klezmer institute was cancelled.
But.....since there was a fairly well-publicized concert scheduled for
Thursday night, July 24 at 7:30 PM in room G14 in the St. Botolph Building (241 St.
Botolph St., Boston)
And since people might show up for that concert anyway...
I've decided to host a klezmer and Yiddish jam session that night, which will
at least feature myself and Michael Winograd.
And if there's an audience, we can pretend it's a concert. A really good
concert.
One word of warning - If you want to get in, be sure to arrive before eight -
they lock the doors (street entrance) to the building at 8.
Also, I think they lock the parking lot entrance even earlier.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to maybe bring something to eat or drink
(non-alcoholic, but we can pretend).
Thursday, July 24, 7:30pm
Klezcentricity will be playing a concert at Nottoway Park in Vienna, VA -
part of Fairfax County's music in the parks series.
For one hour, starting at 7:30, we will present the pure klezcentricity of

Constaninople, David and Wendy's originals, and sneak previews from an
upcoming CD project!

Weimar Klezmer Weeks continues with workshops, but also films, lectures, readings and concerts. For full details, see www.klezmer-wochen-weimar.de
Under the leadership of internationally renowned dance teachers Michael Alpert and Zev Feldman and accompanied by live klezmer music played by Alan Bern, Kurt Bjorling, Stuart Brotman, Christian Dawid and Sanne Möricke, this workshop will offer the first ever truly in-depth Yiddish dance learning experience in Europe. Parallel sessions for beginning and advanced dancers will ensure a minimum of "standing around" time, and two 3-hour sessions each day as well as open dances in the evenings should satiate the most ravenous dance appetites.
