Men jo !

French for "The Black Eyes," this Paris-based octet, led by fiddlers Eric and Olivier Slabiak, offers an irresistible invitation to participate in some of the most rhythmic and emotional sounds emanating from any part of the world. Part gypsy, part klezmer, theirs is the music that has moved people to sing and dance around the world for centuries.
"In today's terminology, Les Yeux Noirs should have been the boyband of a lost era eight of them, all performing, dancing, singing, powerhouses of entertainment, guaranteed to get the girls screaming and the masses on their feet." (Bangkok Post)

Each edition is an experience that leaves its mark, imbued with unusual atmospheres, jazz manouche, Balkan brass bands, classic klezmer, and contamination with italian popular tradition and world music. They share a single origin: two forms of music that go back in time and in space, radically tied to popular sentiment, reaching us integral and vital in spite of the ravages of history. On one hand Klezmer music, inescapably tied to the people whose culture it expresses. And on the other, gypsy music, the atavistic sound of the wandering gypsy culture. There are few events like it in Italy or in Europe, and while it maintains the intimate dimension of a local festival, Vincoli Sonori continues to offer a quality programme that does not only appeal to fans of world music. In the past, guests have included Taraf de Haidouks, Acquaragia Drom, Urs Karpatz, The Klezmatics, Maurice El Medioni, Kalman Balogh, Loyko, Colalaila, Brave Old World, Titi and Ziroli Winterstein, Ando Drom and Bratsch.

The cutting-edge world music club Satalla presents The Klez Dispensers in concert on Sunday, July 18th at 7pm as part of their summer celebration of Yiddish language and culture. Hailed by the Forward as "the voice of Klezmer past and future", Frank London of the Klezmatics called them his "favorite of the new generation of klezmer bands."
The Klez Dispensers, formed in 1998, have a diverse repertoire spanning traditional klezmer, a wide variety of jazz styles, and original compositions. They are currently a seven-piece band, comprising clarinet, trumpet, violin, saxophone, piano, bass and drums. The Klez Dispensers have performed at the New Jersey Folk Festival, the Sedgewick Theater in Philadelphia, Tonic's Klezmer Brunch, the Supper Club and CBGB's in New York, the National Theater Summer Stage in London, and perform frequently at venues in the tri-state area. In 2000, the group released their first album, "Indispensable" (now sold out). Their new album, "New Jersey Freylekhs", was released in early 2004.

The club regularly features performances by Tzadik executive producer John Zorn as well as Marc Ribot, Elliot Sharp, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, and others.
The dynamic guitar trio Rashanim merges the power of rock with electrifying improvisation and beautiful Jewish melodies, leading the The Village Voice to call them "one of the best things to happen to [Jewish music] since Andy Statman or the Klezmatics." Rashanim's debut CD was released in 2003 on John Zorn's Tzadik Records. Rashanim is lead by guitarist Jon Madof and includes Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (Satlah, Lemon Juice Quartet, Anthony Braxton) on electric bass and Mathias Kunzli (Randy Brecker, George Garzone, Mecca Bodega) on drums and percussion.
