The Levees Jewltide Hanukkah Bash

12/28 Wed
World Cafe

Guster's Adam Gardner and The Zamboni's Dave Schneider have joined forces to bring you an instant indie-pop Hanukkah classic. JDub Records / Reprise Records are proud to announce The LeeVees on tour, kicking off in Baltimore on November 28th, in support of their debut release, "Hanukkah Rocks."

The song styles range from the Beach Boys-esque "Latke Clan" to the punk crunch of Ramones-inspired, "Gelt Melts" to the Hawaiian-sounding ode to a retiree who longs to be in Florida, "At the Timeshare." Yes, every song is about Hanukkah. Some say such a concept is a bit obsessive but Adam and Dave prefer the phrase "extremely focused."

The LeeVees touring band also features rabbi's-kid Shank Bone (keyboards) and Michael Azzerad (drums) author of "This Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes From The American Indie Underground 1981-1991."

Two generations of Latin Jewish musicians come together for two special
shows. At the age of 90, legendary lounge pianist and bandleader IRVING
FIELDS is the godfather of Latin Jewish music. Fields is noted for
creating this musical cocktail by blending the rhythms and melodies
Havana, Harlem, and the Catskills, most notably via 1959's multi-
million seller Bagels and Bongos, which was re-released earlier this
year. Joining Fields is SEPTETO RODRIGUEZ, led by Cuban-born
percussionist/ composer Roberto Juan Rodriguez. Rod
riguez is acclaimed for his innovative fusing of Cuban and Jewish
music, most recently on 2004's Baila! Gitano Baila!, "a mesmerizing
meld of pre-salsa Cuban music and traditional Jewish melodies."
