Golden Land Concerts presents artists showcase, NYC, Jan 23

On January 23, 2006, Golden Land Concerts will be hosting its 10th annual showcase of Jewish and World Music Performers at the Arts Presenters Conference in New York's Hilton Hotel & Towers, in the Gibson Room on the 2nd Floor.

If you are not participating in the conference and would like to attend the showcase, please give us a call at the office.

In addition to the artists who will take part in the showcase, we will be happy to discuss all the wonderful artists on our distinguished roster when at the Arts Presenters Conference. We'll be in Rhinelander Gallery booth #203.

Golden Land Concerts

Golem's two main shnozzes3:00 P.M. Golem, pictured Annette Ezikiel and Aaron Diskin.
New York-based GOLEM transforms the music of its Jewish grandparents, making it modern, edgy, sexy and brash; infusing the World Music scene with a breath of fresh air from Eastern Europe. Fronted by accordionist/singer, Annette Ezekiel, and madcap vocalist Aaron Diskin, Golem's explosive onstage attitude makes Klezmer rock.

3:20 P.M. Maria Krupoves
Vivacious Lithuanian folk singing star Maria Krupoves brings love and reverence to the Yiddish songs of the once bustling Jewish community of her native land. Her performance of this material is a truly moving and infectious tribute to those for whom Vilnius had been "The Jerusalem of Lithuania."

3:40 P.M. Mikveh
Mikveh is a super group of the top women in klezmer, including singer Adrienne Cooper, Klezmatics founder Alicia Svigals on fiddle, and charismatic trumpeter Susan Watts of the Hoffman klezmer dynasty. Together, they rock out with sizzling dance music and riveting Yiddish/English songs, both ancestral and brand new.

Pharaoh's Daughter blends pan-Mediterranean sensuality and psychedelic sensibility thrilling audiences at festivals, colleges, clubs and concert halls. Basya Schechter leads this musical, poetic journey through swirling Hasidic chants, Sephardic grunge, and spiritual stylings filtered through oud, percussion, flute, strings, vocals and electronica. 4:20 P.M. The Three Yiddish Divas
Three magnificent voices. Three thrilling performers. The Three Yiddish Divas: Open Borders. Joanne Borts: Broadway, Adrienne Cooper: Concert Stage and Theresa Tova: Jazz-Cabaret blend multilingual repertoire in a sophisticated, emotionally charged, powerful concert that has won standing ovations from international audiences. Joining the divas, pianist Dan Rosengard (former music director SNL)

4:40 P.M. Nikitov
Presenting power-driven Eastern European Gypsy Jazz and soulful Yiddish songs. The pure and emotive vocals of Niki Jacobs together with a strong rhythmic ensemble captures the sound and spirit of this music. If you're looking for a rich multi-cultural experience then Netherlands-based Nikitov is perfect unexplored territory.

The smiles of the Afro-Semitic Experience. 5:00 P.M. Debbie Friedman
Debbie Friedman is a towering figure of contemporary American Jewish music, whose songs are, for many, integral to celebrating their Jewish identity. She is a charismatic performer, whose concerts, whether in Carnegie Hall, in performing arts venues or synagogues worldwide, bring communities together, and audiences to their feet.

5:20 P.M. The Afro-Semitic Experience, pictured
A dynamic ensemble of African-American and Jewish-American musicians, the Afro-Semitic Experience is dedicated to preserving, promoting and expanding the rich cultural and musical heritage of the Jewish and African Diaspora. The combination of their sophisticated jazz artistry, wit, and reverence for the material creates a moving, one-of-a-kind musical experience.

5:40 P.M. Theresa Tova
Theresa Tova is a classy, jazzy and deliciously sensuous performer. From the Broadway musical stage to concert and Jazz venues around the world this towering, pan-cultural jazz-cabaret diva delivers sexy new Yiddish sounds and sensitive interpretations of American standards in a velvety voice that touches the soul.

This innovative all-star klezmer/bluegrass fusion band crosses the boundaries of Jewish/World/Bluegrass/Jamband to draw and delight diverse audiences of all ages. Featured in the Paul Taylor Dance Company's new work "Klezmerbluegrass", Margot Leverett and the Klezmer Mountain Boys are attracting international acclaim. Concerts and educational programs available.

6:20 P.M. Julie Silver
Acclaimed Jewish singer/songwriter Julie Silver has riveted audiences with her unforgettable voice, impeccable comic timing, dazzling guitar work for over twenty years. One of the freshest performers on the folk/rock scene today, her crossover debut album, Notes From Montana (featuring Helen Hunt) is widening her audience and appeal.

6:40 P.M. Balkan Beat Box
Balkan Beat Box blends music from the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans and Eastern Europe with modern beats. Their style ranges from dub, electronic, and klezmer to hip-hop and punk. Formed by producer/drummer Tamir Muskat and Ori Kaplan, this music isn't meant to be merely listened to, it needs to be experienced.
