Dudu Fisher, Symphony Hall, Boston, MA, November 1, 2009

Known for his stirring performance on Broadway as Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLE and as a world famous Israeli cantor, Dudu Fisher brings an exciting and visually stunning show to Boston’s Symphony Hall (303 Mass. Avenue) on Sunday, November 1, at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $45-75 and can be purchased at www.bso.org or by calling 888.266.1200.

Based on his highly successful PBS special, IN CONCERT FROM ISRAEL, Fisher will take the audience on an inspired journey connecting his talent as a Broadway performer, cantor, and contemporary artist with music and stories that celebrate the beauty of Israel's landscape, culture and people.

Fisher has performed on the stages of Broadway, the West End in London, Israel, and throughout the world, including singing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Zubin Mehta, recording an album of show tunes with the London Symphony Orchestra, and performing for Britain's Royal family and Bill and Hillary Clinton. He is the only Broadway performer to receive a Broadway contract allowing him to observe the Jewish Sabbath by not performing on Friday evenings and Saturday matinees, a recognition of his talent and dedication to the role and a constant source of pride and accomplishment in his career.

Fisher'€™s Fall 2009 North American Tour is a celebration of the PBS television special that capitalizes on his incredible vocal and artistic range and features a repertoire that goes well beyond the television show. It tells the story of a cantor who finds success on the stages of Broadway, but who never forgets his home or the musical landscape of Israel. The tour concludes with shows in Toronto on November 5 and in Baltimore on November 7.

Yasmin Levy is the Ladino singer born in Jerusalem, Israel who has taken
Ladino music in new directions and to new heights on the international
stage. Yasmin has received numerous recognitions and has toured extensively
throughout the world including appearances at the WOMEX and WOMAD festivals.
She is on her debut tour of the United States with three previous U.S.
appearances in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle.
Yasmin is the daughter of the late Yitzhak Levy, one of the world's
leading scholars in Ladino music who spent his entire career collecting and
preserving the Sephardic music that was passed down orally from generation to
generation for over 500 years. Although her father passed away when she was
only one year old, the traditions passed from her father to her mother and
then to the young Yasmin are a testament to the survival of this endangered
art. Her widely acclaimed third album Mano Suave will be released in the
U.S. in September 2009.

Critically Acclaimed NEW YORK Premiere
This great theatrical legend returns to New York to unveil this movingly delivered, beautifully sung show about the pioneering 19th - century author Sholom Aleichem. This is a tour de force one-man homage to a writer who was hailed as the Jewish Mark Twain. Told with warmth, humor and a rich catalogue of Yiddish music this major event will be enjoyed by all generations.

Sholom Aleichem’s stories introduced the world to Tevye the Milkman and inspired the landmark Broadway musical, “Fiddler on the Roof.” Theo Bikel played Tevye more than 2,000 performances onstage… Now as playwright and star, Bikel brings back to life one of literature’s most beloved authors and a bevy of the unforgettable characters he created.

He tells their stories… he sings their songs… he magically melds times long gone with matters that tug at our heartstrings even today. Singing in English and Yiddish, Bikel captivates his audience with an enchanting trove of music from Eastern Europe played live onstage by world-renowned musical director Tamara Brooks and acclaimed accordionist Merima Kljuco.

Sholom Aleichem’s last will and testament implored that we remember him only with laughter… and laugh you will as Theo Bikel’s heartfelt creation touchingly fulfills that wish.

MORE ABOUT CHANA ROTHMAN:

Chana's music, using two languages and ancient texts to address social ills and joys of today, brings a universal appeal. The message is unity through music. Two years as a Head Songleader in Reform Judaism's teen leadership summer camps helped Chana develop a passion for music as a tool to bring communities together.

RICHARD ANTONE of ELMORE MAGAZINE writes: "Rothman's music bubbles with a conscious vibe that's capable of bringing people together. She is adept at using religious imagery and bilingual lyrics as a bridge rather than a wedge."

Chana's debut album, "We Can Rise," (Oyhoo Records) produced by C Lanzbom, was voted "Best Album of 2007" by jewschool.com and she was featured in "Top 5 Women Who Rock" by American Jewish Life and Lilith Magazine. Chana was also featured in the documentary film "Jewish Music: More Than Just Klezmer" produced by Brooklyn College Media Department.

The Hip Hop Sulha, SOBs, New York, NY, November 11, 2009

shemspeed Hip Hop SulhaNEW YORK, NY – On Wednesday, November 11, 2009, Jewish and Muslim artists from the Tug of War Tour and Shemspeed will come together at New York’s SOBs at the Hip Hop Sulha. Performers include Israeli and Iranian rap duo Most Hated, DeScribe, spoken word artist Tahani Salah, beat boxer J. Stone, Dash Speaks, TJ Di Hitmaker, NSR and a special DJ set by Electro Morocco.

Founded by American-Israeli producer, Diwon, The Hip Hop Sulha reinvents the concept of the traditional Arab sulha (reconciliation) by bringing leading Jewish and Muslim hip-hop musicians together to celebrate peace and religious tolerance via the performing arts. In the past, the series has hosted Hadag Nachash, Saz, Sagol 59, and DJ Spooky to name a few. This evening will feature Chassidic Hip Hop, Reggae, and R&B, artist, DeScribe, Jamaican Dancehall artist, TJ Di Hitmaker, and NYC-based Israeli expatriates, Electro Morocco.

The Tug of War Tour is a thought-provoking and multi-dimensional artistic endeavor that explores narratives of conflict and co-existence between Muslims and Jews. The brainchild of Israeli-American M.C. Sneakas and M.C. Serch (of Third Bass fame and VH1’s White Rapper Show), the tour features the controversial rap group ‘Most Hated’ (consisting of Sneakas and Muslim-Iranian rapper Mazzi), in addition to spoken word poets Vanessa Hidary and Tahani Salah (both of whom have been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam).

Be a part of this unique opportunity to see Muslim and Jewish creativity together on one stage on Wednesday, November 11th at SOBs - 204 Varick Street. Doors open at 8pm; tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Stay for the after-party with Diwon spinning.

CBST 36th Anniversary Concert: "Double Chai" in Chelsea
Holy Apostles Church, 296 Ninth Avenue @ W 28th St, New York,
New York 10001

Isle of Klezbos sextet performs in concert for the 36th Anniversary of Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, synagogue for NYC's LGBT Jews, family & friends. The number 36 has an auspicious meaning, since it's 2 x lucky 18! The word for Life = Chai... and the letters spelling that word, whether in Yiddish or Hebrew, add up to eighteen. So this is an extra-special celebration. cbst.org

"Isle of Klezbos sextet plays CBST Double Chai" is made possible in part with public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

Ars Caramelis Festival (Katowice ,Pologne) : 25 novembre 2009
NEW KLEZMER MUSIC and IT ROCK’S !!!
