It will feature hitherto unrecorded gems that slide effortlessly between delicately nuanced nigunim (wordless melodies) to raucous village dances. Pico Union Project

Tickets $10 adults, $5 kids 12 and under
For more information and tickets, go to www.mostlykosher.com
Pico Union Project, the burgeoning Los Angeles nonprofit committed to cross-cultural collaboration, announced that acclaimed Jewish Culture Revival Ensemble, MOSTLY KOSHER, will headline a special performance of music and theater on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 8:00pm at its historic downtown Los Angeles venue to celebrate the release of their debut CD. The ensemble’s musical stylings will be complemented by an opening performance by Mexican-American chanteuse, ZADA, and World Music trio, Triumph of the Egg.
Mostly Kosher is known in Southern California as the next generation of Jewish Culture Revival Ensembles. Directed by the multi-talented clarinetist, pianist and singer Leeav Sofer, Mostly Kosher is already making a name in the world
music and klezmer communities. Leeav is joined by Janice “Rachele the Matchmaker” Mautner Markham on violin and shtick, as well as Casey Solow, Mike King, Michael Bolger, Adam Levy and Eric Hagstrom. From their standing-room-only performance at the Orange County Yiddish Festival to their exuberant performances at the Skirball Cultural Center, the John Anson Ford Theater and the Autry Museum, Mostly Kosher is taking the World Music and Jewish community by storm. Band leader Leeav Sofer has expanded his artistry to composer and arranger as Mostly Kosher performs his renditions on this traditional music. “It’s very exciting to
take the Klezmer and Yiddish classics and give them a unique feel, from Latin Jazz to Afro-Cuban, even adding a Hip-Hop rhythm,” says Sofer. “We often include South American Ladino music in our program, as well as Yiddish tangos with a
French flare. Jewish music is global, is multi-cultural, and we want our music to reflect that.”

Hebrew poems (piyyutim), chanted for centuries across the Diaspora, have been adapted to different melodies, evolving into a form of "Jewish world music" with roots in Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Middle East.
This singing tradition, a core component of synagogue practice, has also entered secular life in Israel through public performances, workshops, and performing arts festivals, and is now spreading to North America. The program will include words by Professor Robert Alter, and a performance of traditional and contemporary musical interpretations by Schusterman Visiting Artist Yair Harel and the Ensemble Tafillalt (Jerusalem).

"A wonderfuly inventive take on the usual seasonal fare." Time Out ****
This story begins in a tiny vilage, more or less covered in snow, where a Hanukhah latke, a fried potato pancake, is born screaming. The latke jumps from the boiling pan and races through the wintery village, deep in the throes of festive preparations. Lost amongst the snowy landscape and Christmas lights, will our Latke ever find where it belongs?
This adaptation of the absurdly funny Lemony Snicket story is vividly brought to life in Tall Stories' unique physical style, with live music, lots of laughs and a screaming potato pancake.
"Deliciously directed.... they create an air of adorabe silliness, a good-natured knowingness that tips delicately into pastiche." The Telegraph ****
"A gem of a children's show." Jewish Chronicle *****

Montreal, Quebec H2L 4A7
Composer, producer, pianist, vocalist and harmonica player Jason Rosenblatt is one of the world’s foremost harmonica innovators. His performance on the unassuming instrument has helped to open new musical ground for the instrument long associated with “the blues,” into art forms as diverse as jazz, bluegrass, klezmer and Turkish music. His latest project consisting of original jazz, blues and ragtime compositions is gritty but performed with good humour. Jason is joined by master of all things string Joe Grass (guitar), Joel Kerr (bass) and Evan Tighe (Drums).
