I just wanted to let you know about the U.S. debut of "Eve's Women" from Israel who play both traditional klezmer as well as an "Israeli style" of klezmer with strong Middle Eastern, Latin and African influences.
They will be playing along with Chava Alberstein in Brooklyn's Prospect Park in the Celebrate Brooklyn! summer concert series on Saturday, July 12th at 7:30 pm. Here is an article that just came out about them in Israel21c.
These are four top female talents from Israel, coming from a variety of musical backgrounds - from symphony orchestras to the country's hottest rock bands. Consequently, they bring a truly unique and fresh blend of klezmer, jazz, rock and world music sounds.

Israeli Dancing with Leng & Yigal! Did you think you can't dance? Think again!!
We are pleased to announce our new Wednesday evening session, starting July 2 at the Stamford JCC in the dance studio!
Weโll be dancing from 7:00 PM โ 10:00 PM. We worked very hard to get this session organized and started. Those who asked us to open another session and were enthused about an evening session, please be sure to come and show your support so that the JCC will know that there is enough interest to sustain this class. If there is not enough support, we will have to close it. We would like to be able to continue this session in the Fall, either on a Wednesday, or another week night, depending on the availability of the studio.

Workshop with Rona Kenan
Tuesday 8th July, 6pm to 8pm
(Followed by Jam until 9pm)
Singing-songwriting workshop with Israel's new female leading artist whose dark velvety voice, biting lyrics and striking presence have set the bar.
By the young age of 18, Rona Kenan was already heralded as a "discovery," with promising talent as a musician, singer and songwriter. Her first public appearance attracted much attention, when she performed two original songs for Eran Tzur's program and album, in memory of the poetess Yona Wollach. Since then, she has composed for and performed in numerous and varied projects.
In 2004, she released her long-anticipated debut album, "Breathing Down to Zero," produced by leading Israeli producer Izhar Ashdot, with 11 original tracks in both Hebrew and English. She has also written the music for a number of Israeli films and television series. In February 2007, Rona released her second album: "Through Foreign Eyes". The disk presents ten songs, all composed and written by her.

Known for his stirring performance on Broadway as Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLE and as a world famous Israeli cantor, Dudu Fisher brings an exciting and visually stunning show to Bostonรขยยs Symphony Hall (303 Mass. Avenue) on Sunday, November 1, at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $45-75 and can be purchased at www.bso.org or by calling 888.266.1200.
Based on his highly successful PBS special, IN CONCERT FROM ISRAEL, Fisher will take the audience on an inspired journey connecting his talent as a Broadway performer, cantor, and contemporary artist with music and stories that celebrate the beauty of Israel's landscape, culture and people.
Fisher has performed on the stages of Broadway, the West End in London, Israel, and throughout the world, including singing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Zubin Mehta, recording an album of show tunes with the London Symphony Orchestra, and performing for Britain's Royal family and Bill and Hillary Clinton. He is the only Broadway performer to receive a Broadway contract allowing him to observe the Jewish Sabbath by not performing on Friday evenings and Saturday matinees, a recognition of his talent and dedication to the role and a constant source of pride and accomplishment in his career.
Fisher'ยยs Fall 2009 North American Tour is a celebration of the PBS television special that capitalizes on his incredible vocal and artistic range and features a repertoire that goes well beyond the television show. It tells the story of a cantor who finds success on the stages of Broadway, but who never forgets his home or the musical landscape of Israel. The tour concludes with shows in Toronto on November 5 and in Baltimore on November 7.

Ayalah will focus on the first generation of choreographers whom she knew personally, including (with a sample popular dance) Leah Bergstein (Shiru Hashir), Zeev Havatzelet (Al Tiruni), (Zvi Friedhaber (Nitzanim), Shalom Hermon (Dayagim), Gurit Kadman (Etz Harimon)), Sara Levi-Tanai (El Ginat Egoz) and Rivka Shturman (Kuma Echa). City Winery
155 Varick St
New York, NY
Known in Israel by her given name Achinoam Nini, Noa is Israel's leading international concert and recording artist. Born in Tel- Aviv in 1969, Noa lived in NYC from age 2 until her return to Israel alone at the age of 17. Her family is originally from Yemen. After serving the mandatory two years in the Israeli Army in a military entertainment unit, Noa studied music at the Rimon School where she met her long-time partner and collaborator Gil Dor.
Noa's strongest influences come from the singer-songwriters of the 60s, like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. These musical and lyrical sensibilities, combined with Noa's Yemenite roots and Gil Dor's strong background in Jazz, Classical and Rock, have created Noa and Gil's unique sound, manifested in hundreds of songs written and performed together. Noa plays percussion, guitar and piano. She is married to Dr. Asher Barak, they have two children, Ayehli and Enea, and live in Israel.

A rare performance in the UK: Eyal Maoz and Asaf Sirkis share a long history of collaboration. Beginning at
elementary school in their hometown of Rehovot, Israel, their friendship and musical association has continued through many years, and they have since become main stays of the creative music scenes of London (Sirkis) and New York (Maoz). A huge plethora of influences and experiences comes to creative fruition in their duo. Combining composition and improvisation, their intuitive rapport and mutual understanding guides the way through a musical conversation full of unexpected twists and turns and sudden bursts of colour and energy, yet never losing its emotional depth and logical coherence. The Maoz-Sirkis duet brings straight-up experimentation to the traditional concept of jazz, blending both composed and improvised music to create an interesting and inventive whole.

3 Cohens and Gilad Hekselman Trio
Sunday, April 29, 7:00 pm
The 3 Cohens are a trio of siblings from Tel Aviv, Israel – tenor saxophonist/clarinetist Anat Cohen, trumpeter Avishai Cohen and soprano saxophonist Yuval Cohen – whose sense of improvisational interplay is both uncannily fluent and wonderfully, infectiously warm. 3 Cohens will be backed by a rhythm section featuring Pianist Yonatan Avishai, bassist Omer Avital, and drummer Obed Calvaire.
Gilad Hekselman Trio, featuring bassist Joe Martin and drummer Obed Calvaire and will present the opening set in this incredible night of Israeli Jazz.
Gilad Hekselman is a remarkable young guitarist who “has set himself roughly in the line of Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkle with a warm and clear guitar tone, clear articulation, crazily extended improvisational ideas, speed when he needs, an advanced understanding of harmony and the flexibility to go wherever his bands wantโฆ”

One of the most talked-about artists at the 2012 Ashkenaz Festival, Israel's Shye Ben Tzur returns to Toronto as part of a coast-to-coast North American summer tour. Having studied Indian classical music for over a decade, and immersed himself in Muslim Qawwali music, Shye Ben Tzur has fashioned a wholly unique fusion of Hebrew and Middle Eastern musical influences with those of the Indian sub-continent. Working with a cross-cultural ensemble of Rajasthani-Indian and Israeli musicians, his music transcends the seemingly quirky juxtapositions at its core: devotional Qawwali music with Hebrew poetry, Indian classical vocals with spanish guitar, funky bass with pulsating tabla. This not-to-be-missed event will be one of Toronto's top summer's concerts, featuring a colourful ensemble, deep grooves and soulful improvisation in an awe-inspiring show.

Dudu Tassa
Sat, 03/15, 9:00pm
Russian House
307 E. 5th Street
Austin, TX
With his band, The Kuwatis, Dudu Tassa summons the work of two Iraqi-Jewish composers, Daoud and Saleh Al Kuwaiti (who happen to also be his grandfather and his great-uncle), to create an Israeli pop-rock informed by Arabic tradition.
โIt was interesting to do,โ Tassa recalls. โI was ready for something new. I was bored with Israeli pop music. And this struck something in me. I asked my mom for recordings of her father and I went to Israel radio to see what they had. Honestly, it wasnโt easy to listen to them โ my ears werenโt used to such sad music and the melodies were difficult.โ
In the end, he listened to over 200 pieces of music by the brothers for his Al Kuwaiti project. His choices turned out to be pieces he knew.
โI connected to those songs my mother sang when I was a child. Iโd listen and I knew them I picked songs that I thought I could take to the West, where I could imagine harmonies in the music.โ

Dudu Tassa is a bona fide Israeli rock star: one of the nationโs most beloved singer/songwriters and most-called guitarists-on-demand. He has released eight albums, produced numerous others, and composed for television and cinema. In this performance, he and his band sing the songs of Tassaโs grandfather and great-uncle, Saleh and Daud Al-Kuwaiti. Performing as the Al-Kuwaiti brothers, they were two of the greatest composer-musicians in Baghdad during the first half of the 20th century and acclaimed innovators of modern Iraqi music. Theyโre still highly esteemed in the Arab world.
Tassa saluted them in his 2011 album โDudu Tassa and the Al Kuwaitis,โ singing their songs in Arabic and Hebrew, and integrating them with Iraqi, Middle Eastern, and Israeli rock music. The album, a top seller in Israel, also features archival materials from the Kuwaitis and singer Faiza Rushdie as well as contributions by contemporary oud master Yair Dalal. Dalal will join Tassa and his band โ featuring qanun (Middle Eastern zither), violin, cello, keyboards, guitars, bass and drums โ on stage at Yoshiโs San Francisco as a special guest. Ninet Tayeb was first introduced to the music scene when she was only 19 years old after winning the flagship season of the Israelโs version of โPop Idolโ in 2003. Becoming a household name overnight, Tayebโs career grew into what many critics have hailed as a wild Cinderella story phenomena, as Ninet who was still living with her parents in the country at the time- decided to pick up her guitar and begin exploring the music scene in Tel Aviv. Ninetโs debut album was released in 2006, selling Platinum in less than 24 hours- charting no less than 5 singles that became instant number one hits on national radio through out the country. Her second album, written and produced by Ninet herself was released in 2009, again receiving overwhelming critical success.
